Talk:Main Page
Most of the pages in the Wiki at this stage are just stubs. I just want to get the structure correct before working out a template for the content.
Categories
Categories have been used extensively in this Wiki
- https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Categories
- I have split the wiki into five categories, with various subcategories.
- Pages that are related to robotics have been added to the category:robotics
- For the Portal:Robotics in Australia I have used the Dynamic Page list extension.
Dynamic Page List
There are two ways to call a DynamicPageList
<DPL>
category=Robotics
category=SME
</DPL>
Or
{{#dpl:
|category=Robotics
|category=SME
|ordermethod=title
|order=ascending
|notcategory=Historical
}}
Example
<DPL>
category=Robotics
category=SME
</DPL>
With this example, the extension creates a list of pages that are both category:robotics and category:SME.
This looks like the cleanest way to do this.
I have also started to categorize the pages with different category:domain and category:sector
Now that I have a structure in place, I have started on the Portal:History of Australian Robotics -
At the moment, I am thinking of categorizing pages that are out of date - as category:historical
Thoughts?
Portals
The Portals are not actually MediaWiki Portals Yet!! I need to configure MediaWiki to support the portals
Redirection
Another VERY useful feature of Mediawiki is redirection.
<DPL>
#redirect [[Electro Optical Systems]=SME
</DPL>
So for EOS I have created a redirection
So in theory, it is best to create a page with the full name, and then do a redirect from the short name.
PS. This happens automatically when you move a page.
