Introduction

The beauty of the Media Wiki is that the pages are not hierarchical. They have no parent or child pages.

You simply click on the "Create a New Page" on the left hand side bar.

The pages can be organised into Namespaces and Categories

By default pages are created in the MAIN Namespace. It is up to the user to name a category.

Intention

The intent of this wiki is to create a directory of innovation.

Where other resources exist on the internet, then this site should just point to that site.

Initially, I intend to create as many stub pages as i can.

Some of these pages will be created by AI - and will be tagged with AI Created

So that at some later time the page can be checked and rewritten.

Category Convention

The Categories - can be Hierarchical (ie with subcategories).

This is quit a different way of thinking about information. Similar to the way Gmail works

Most pages should include a category of what they describe.

For example - Report. Person, Company etc etc.

And then you create Categories for different Sector, Field, Domain

In some case, I have created Categories, that are also pages:

For example: Federal Government and subcategory of Department of Industry, which has a subcategory of CRC, which has a subcategory of CRC Program.

In this category we have the IMCRC, which includes the categories of Manufacturing, Centre and Historical

Redirection Convention

One powerful feature is redirection]

Foe example, the page for the IMCRC is redirection to the page Innovative Manufacturing CRC (2016-2022)

The convention is that the final page should be to full name.

For example Australian Research Council, with a redirect from ARC

The redirection is very useful when the name of the page changes.

When you move a page, Mediawiki automatically creates a redirect.

Please Note: The Hierarchy of Categories is a work in progress.

Naming Convention

Events, News and Video should lead with the reverse date. For example 2018-05-22.24 International Conference on Robotics and Automation.

This helps when we create a sorted list, such as Robotics Videos

To make like simpler it is useful to create a redirected page of ICRA2018

Back Links

One of the Most powerful features of MediaWiki are the back links.

Links that refer to the page you are looking at.

This is listed as one of the Tools on the menu bar on the left hand side.

You can also embed list list in your page

Templates

Many of pages use the [Template:List]] to create content

Structure

This directory provides links to all the companies, people, agencies, alliances, networks that exist in the national innovation ecosystem. The new twist is that this directory has links (both foreward and back) that make it possible to create reverse lookups (ie what technology is required for a particular outcome) and labels that help with the creation of targeted portals.

Starting at the top of the figure above:

  • Government creates policy, strategies and regulations
  • Supported by agencies, facilities and funding
  • To assist academia and industry to development technology
  • Which leads to desired applications and outcomes.
  • Built by people with skills (acknowledged with awards)
  • Supported by organisations (public, research)
  • To write reports which advise government.
